Albany Wins First Prize in Drinking Water Contest

15 Aug 2007

by: Commissioner Robert Cross - (518) 434-5300

Albany, NY – Mayor Gerald D. Jennings today announced that the City of Albany won first prize for the best tasting drinking water in a regional competition sponsored by the New York chapter of the American Water Works Association. Albany also took top honors in June for the best tasting water in Albany County.

“Now we are on to Syracuse and we hope to win there,” Mayor Jennings noted. “With two wins under our belt, Albany drinking water will now compete at the State Fair for the best tasting drinking water in New York State.” Albany won that competition in 2003 when it was awarded the best tasting surface water in the State.

“This is very good news for our City,” Mayor Jennings said. “But, this comes as no surprise for our residents who know they have the best tasting and highest quality drinking water anywhere. I appreciate the great job done by the hardworking men and women of the Water Department on behalf of our residents.”

Competitors during Thursday night’s contest all were winners in their respective county competitions and included Albany, Schenectady, Johnstown, Schodack, and Halfmoon.
