Genealogy

Vital Statistics maintains birth and death records for those events that occur within the City of Albany. Our records date from September 1, 1870 to present. Requests for genealogy research can be made in person, via mail or by telephone.

FEE

There is a $22.00 fee per person/per record.
Vital Statistics only accepts: cash, money orders, certified bank checks, or credit cards.
There is an additional $6.00 fee for credit card payments.

Fees are collected at the time of request / Fees must accompany paper work if mail service is used.
No personal checks are accepted.
Do not mail cash.

RESTRICTIONS

A death record must be on file for 50 years before it can be accessed for genealogy purposes.

A birth record must be on file for 75 years and the person must be deceased.

The time limits specified above can be waived if the person who is making the request is a descendant (grandparent, parent, child, etc.) of the person whose record is being researched. (Identification and proof of relationship is required.)

Identification (if necessary), request form, and payment must be provided to Vital Statistics to complete your request. Fax any necessary identification to (518) 434-5975.
