Community Gardens
One of the most important aspect of the Department of General Services beautification projects is the community gardens. The Community Gardens in the City of Albany are cooperative food gardens situated on once vacant lots planted and cared for by people in the city who want to garden but lack suitable space or conditions where they live. The Department of General Services works cooperatively with the Capital District Community Gardens to provide for the annual garden program. The gardens are managed by Capital District Community Gardens, a not for profit private organization that has been helping Capital District Albany residents improve their own neighborhoods through Community gardening since 1975.
