Albany Community Development Agency
OverviewThe Albany Community Development Agency (ACDA) is a subsidiary to the Department of Development and Planning, responsible for improving substandard urban living conditions in distressed neighborhoods. ACDA’s goal is to provide suitable living environments and economic opportunities for persons of low and moderate income. ACDA secures and administers community development funds to increase homeownership and property rehabilitation efforts. Funding sources include annual allocations from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the City of Albany, and grants from the NYS Affordable Housing.
ACDA also manages Community Development Block Grant funds, which support consolidated planning within the City. ACDA oversees a federally funded lead based paint abatement and rehabilitation program, which provides assistance to qualified homeowners for the removal and/or containment of lead based paint. As the coordinator for all housing activities in the City, ACDA works closely with independent agencies, such as the Albany Housing Authority and Capitalize Albany Corporation. Together, these organizations revitalize neighborhoods by combating unsanitary and deteriorated conditions through conservation, reconstruction and redevelopment planning.
