Economic Development Zone Certification
In cooperation with the Department of Development and Planning, the City Clerk is the Economic Development Zone Certification Officer for the City of Albany. Certification allows businesses to receive targeted assistance and special consideration on utilities and other costs. (Link to Department of Development & Planning)
Tax Certioraris
All those filing City of Albany property tax grievances file in the Office of the City Clerk. The name and address of the person filing the grievance is recorded in the Clerk's office and sent to the Assessor and Corporation Counsel for action. The office also accepts all property tax Small Claims filings. (Link to Department of Assessment & Taxation)
Water Bill Review Committee
Pursuant to City Ordinance 19.31.98, the City has a Water Bill Review Committee, chaired by the City Clerk, which receives complaints from property tax owners concerning their water bills. This office processes forms and schedules dates for hearings, usually the last Thursday of each month. The Clerk, City Engineer, Corporation Counsel and a staff member from the Department of Water and Water Supply make recommendation to Water Board on the disposition of the complaints.
