Ward 2 - Hon. Vivian Kornegay
Vivian D. Kornegay was elected to the Albany Common Council in November 2013. She proudly represents the City of Albany's 2nd Ward, which includes the Historic Mansion Neighborhood, Historic South End and the New York State Museum. Vivian is a member of the Parks, Recreation and Family Services Committee, the Human Resources and Human Rights Committee, and the Housing and Community Development Committee.
Vivian was born in Virginia and moved with her family to Albany as a toddler. She considers Albany home. She has been a longtime community advocate in the city, and served on the Albany Trauma Response Team. She also works closely with AVillage, Inc., Cure Violence and other non-profit organizations. She is a passionate advocate against gun and other violence and a constant voice for our young people. She currently sits on the Offender Notification Panel, is involved with ROOTS, (Re-entry Opportunities and Orientation Towards Success), and speaks with inmates at several prisons on the negative impact incarceration has on family and community.
Vivian became a council member to serve the residents of the city's 2nd Ward, a community that she strongly believes in, and will often refer to as the "strongest ward" in the city. It is her goal to see the neighborhoods of the 2nd Ward restored to the vibrant, thriving neighborhoods they once were.Vivian believes in the quote, "Justice can be secured only if those who are not injured feel as indignant as those who are." She is a devoted mother of three sons and one daughter, and has six grandchildren.
