Honorable Catherine Fahey
Cathy Fahey is serving her 1st term as an independently elected Democrat representing the 7th Ward. She is a longtime 7th Ward resident who has worked hard for our children, our schools and our community. She is an experienced leader who gets things done.
Cathy believes in the future of Albany and is working with others to develop a sustainable and comprehensive plan for the city through her membership on Albany’s Comprehensive Plan Board and the Council’s Planning, Economic Development and Land Use Committee. She also serves on the Council’s Public Safety and Parks, Recreation and Family Services Committees. Cathy’s goals include continued neighborhood revitalization through increased youth services, responsible and locally owned business development, and improved housing and code enforcement
Cathy was a leader in the successful campaign and $29.1 million bond vote in February, 2007 to rebuild Albany’s branch library system. As a result, Albany will have two newly built branch libraries, and three updated and renovated ones. Cathy is a member of the Delaware Avenue and Helderberg Neighborhood Associations. She is active in the Vote Yes Coalition to pass the annual public school budget and is a founding member of People Advocating Small Schools, a grass roots organization which spear headed efforts to pass three bond referendums totaling $204.2 million to rebuild Albany’s K-8 Public Schools.
Cathy is a certified K-12 art educator having taught in both Troy and Schodack Schools. She has also worked in human services at Equinox and Albany County Social Services. She has a Masters Degree in Education from the College of St. Rose and a Bachelors Degree from Kirkland (Hamilton) College in Clinton, NY.
Cathy and her husband Ed Watkins have three children including two Albany Public School graduates and one currently attending School 19. They live on Lawnridge Avenue near Academy Road and attend St. John’s-St. Ann’s Church in Albany’s South End.
